Play Peg Solitaire Online
A cross full of pegs, and only you to clear it
English peg solitaire opens on the familiar cross: 33 holes, the center vacant, a peg in each of the other 32. Every move jumps one peg over a neighbor into the empty hole beyond, and the peg you jumped is gone. No opponent, no diagonals. The puzzle people mean by “solved” is a single peg left in the center.
What this puzzle is actually asking
This is not checkers. Every peg on the board is yours, and a jump deletes the one in the middle, so the count only goes down. The board looks like a cleanup job. What stalls people is an early capture that walls off the center before the last peg can get there.
Tap a peg that still has a jump, then tap the empty hole the board marks. You cannot slide into a neighbor, and you cannot jump on a diagonal. If another jump is open after you land, tap again — each click is one jump, so undo and replay stay one step at a time.
The sidebar changes how far a hint looks, undo steps back, and replay walks the jumps you already made. The exact legal test is on the rules page. If you want the feel of the board first, start from the opening above.

The board most sets actually use
A seven-by-three bar across the middle, with a three-by-three arm above and below. The four corners of the 7×7 square are not holes. That is the English 33, not the French 37 and not a single-row toy. The center starts empty, so the first jumps almost always come from a peg sitting against that hole.

Hints stay on the level you chose
A gentler level is for trying a line without waiting. A deeper level looks further and prefers jumps that still leave a way toward the center. A hint is one suggestion for the position in front of you, not a button that finishes the puzzle. Undo drops a hint that is still running. Replay shows the jumps in order so you can see which one closed the center.

The famous finish, and the ones that stop early
One peg in the center is the classic solve. If nothing on the board can jump, the round is over even when several pegs are left, and the sidebar keeps that count. Not every line reaches the center. Stepping back a few jumps, or starting fresh, beats clicking a dead board.

Questions people actually ask
What counts as a move, and what counts as solved?
A peg jumps along a row or a column: the next hole must hold a peg, and the hole past that must be empty. You land in the empty hole and the peg you jumped over leaves the board. Diagonals, slides, and jumps over two pegs do not count. The classic solve is one peg in the center. When no jump remains, the round stops at whatever is still on the board.
Is this checkers, or fox and geese?
Neither. Checkers is two players taking turns, often with chains of jumps. Fox and geese is one fox hunting a flock that is also trying to trap it. Here every peg is yours, each jump removes exactly one peg, and the aim is to finish alone in the center. The cross can look familiar. The rules are not.
I can see empty holes. Why will the board not take my tap?
An empty hole is a landing square only when it sits two steps from the peg you selected, with exactly one peg between them on a straight line. A diagonal gap, a hole two pegs away, or the empty cell next door with nothing to jump, will not accept the move. Select a peg that really has a capture; the board marks the holes that work.
One peg is left, but it is not in the center. Did I solve it?
The round is over. It is not the classic finish. This board treats only a lone center peg as solved. Anywhere else, or several pegs with no jump left, shows as stuck, with the count in the sidebar. Undo is there if you want another line.
Can I chain several jumps in one go?
The rules allow another jump from the hole you just reached. On this page each click is a single jump: land, then select again. Undo and the move list stay one jump per row instead of folding a chain into one entry.
Will hint just finish the puzzle for me?
No. One click suggests one jump for the position you have, at the depth selected in the sidebar. It is not a stronger engine hiding behind the button. Ignore it if you disagree. Undo or New drops a hint that has not come back yet.
Do I have to open by jumping into the center?
There is no required first jump. Lines that reach the center often touch that area early, but memorizing an opening matters less than asking whether the hole you just left still lets a peg get back to the middle. A capture that seals the center is hard to repair later.
Do I need an account, an install, or a saved game in the cloud?
No. Open the page and jump. Sound stays off until you turn it on. The position lives in this visit; closing the tab does not file it under an account, because there is no login. Adding the site to your home screen is optional, and the install name follows the language of the page you are on.
